ETNIKA CATTERY
Our Story
A story spanning two continents.
Etnika Cattery was born from our love of cats and a special fascination with the Bengal: a breed that combines the extraordinary beauty of wild felines with the affectionate nature of a domestic cat.
Our journey began in Indonesia, a country we called home for many years and where we began developing our breeding and selection programme. What started as a passion became a journey of learning, dedication and the pursuit of excellence.
The Beginning of Our Lines
From the very beginning, the remarkable coat of the Bengal was one of our greatest passions.
We initially focused on rosetted lines, selecting cats for the definition and distribution of their rosettes, the contrast between markings and ground colour, the richness of their tones and the distinctive shine of their coats.
Generation after generation, we developed our own lines, learning to recognise and preserve the characteristics we valued most.
As our experience and understanding of the breed grew, so did our vision. We came to understand that the beauty of a Bengal goes far beyond its coat. We began working with structural lines, paying particular attention to morphology, proportions, expression and the features that give Bengals their distinctive wild appearance.
Our aim became not only to develop exceptional coats, but also cats with harmonious structure, striking expression and the presence of a small wild feline.
Today, both approaches are part of Etnika’s identity: the beauty and contrast of rosettes, and the elegance of a structure with a wild appearance. Two specialisations that reflect our evolution and years of dedication to this remarkable breed.
International Recognition
Throughout our journey, Etnika became involved in international cat shows, an opportunity to keep learning, discover other breeding lines and assess our work against breed standards.
One of the most significant milestones in our history came with Etnika Miss Marilyn Vulcano Edition, who made history as the first Bengal to receive the Best of Breed recognition in CFA’s International Division (Cat Fanciers’ Association).
This achievement holds special meaning for Etnika. It was an unforgettable moment reflecting years of dedication, careful selection and work with our lines.
Other cats have also left their mark on our journey. GC, BWI, DW Faraon-Show Kyle of Etnika, recognised as Best of Breed in CFA’s International Division for the 2019–2020 season, is among our proudest achievements.
Likewise, GC Etnika Santana, third Best of Breed in CFA’s International Division for the 2018–2019 season, represents another important chapter in our story.
These awards are a source of pride, but they also reflect our growth as breeders and our commitment to refining and strengthening our lines. Beyond the titles, our greatest satisfaction is recognising the traits of our earliest generations in the Etnika cats of today.
From Indonesia to Spain
After many years living in Indonesia, life brought us back to Spain. This move marked a new chapter for Etnika, while allowing us to continue everything we had built over the years.
Indonesia remains an essential part of our identity. Our roots as breeders lie there, along with much of our experience. Today, Etnika continues to connect Indonesia and Spain, bringing years of knowledge into a new chapter in Europe.
Our Philosophy
After more than a decade dedicated to Bengals, we have learned that true quality lies in the details. We believe in breeding guided by knowledge, responsible selection and respect for every animal.
The health, wellbeing, temperament and quality of life of our cats are fundamental to our philosophy. In our selection work, we value balanced proportions, expression, structure and coat quality, while seeking to preserve what makes the Bengal so exceptional.
Every generation is the result of years of experience, decisions, learning and dedication that go far beyond appearance.
Beyond the Bengal
Our love of felines also led us to discover the Lykoi, a fascinating breed with a truly distinctive appearance and personality. Its unique qualities inspired us to include it in our breeding programme.
Although Bengals and Lykois are very different, they share something that captivates us: extraordinary beauty and a character all their own.
Etnika Today
Etnika is much more than a name or a breeding programme. It is part of our life, our family and our story across two continents.
Etnika represents years of learning, carefully selected generations and a passion that has grown with us. Today, we continue our journey from Spain, proud of our origins, the cats that shaped our path and the lines we have developed over the years.
A passion that evolves from generation to generation.
